ARI® valves for ammonia
As well as fertiliser production, our customers use ARI® valves in processes that involve ammonia in breweries, dairies, abattoirs and similar industries, predominantly in refrigeration circuits. In the future, ammonia will be used increasingly as a fuel or as a transport medium for hydrogen. In the latter scenario, cracking will be used to break down ammonia into its constituent elements of hydrogen and nitrogen.
As ammonia is a highly toxic gas, the requirements on plant operators are correspondingly high: According to TRAS 110, for example, the machine room must be fitted with a gas alarm system as well as an air intake and outlet system that is designed for explosion protection. It is also essential to ensure that the valves and the connections do not allow any leaks.

- Fitted with a safeguard against unauthorised activation
- Safety valves permitted according to EN 4126-1
- For release to the atmosphere – upstream connection of a bursting disc
- For refrigeration systems with a volume of ammonia > 3 t – fitted with a remote-controlled isolating valve
Our design for your refrigeration system
ARI-Armaturen provides you with customised valve solutions for use with ammonia in a specific refrigerant design:
- Housing made from stainless steel 1.4408 / 1.4404 – alternatively from cast steel 1.0619+N – in accordance with the pressure/temperature rating
- Cover elements made from A4-70/A4
- Designed with welding or flanges with a special flange design with non-crushable seals for zero leakage
- Special housing (non-ferrous metal, dried inside) to avoid chemical reactions with the medium
- Isolating valves are designed as bellow sealed valves for stem sealing with zero leakage
- Alternatively: optional insertion of TA-Luft packing
- Globe control valve design with conical valve seat to break up the crystalline ammonia deposits on the sealing surfaces
- Spindles made from stainless steel
